Stepping Stones are a series of markers that we at St. Stephen’s are laying down to help our kids cross the “stream” of life. These “stones” will be the foundation blocks that the Holy Spirit will use to build for our children — a lasting, formational relationship with Jesus Christ.
They start simply with the first little stone “God loves me” and lead step-by-step to knowing and loving Jesus Christ as their Savior and best friend. Watch for “Stepping Stones” to start showing up all over St. Stephen’s Adventure Rock spaces, and of course in the lives and actions of our kids! Adventure Rock Stepping Stones will lead our kids on a path to these “places,” and by the end of 5th grade we want each and every child who comes to SSUMC to know and understand these things:
#1— Love God and love others. Listen, O Israel! The LORD our God is the one and only LORD. And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, all your strength. The second is equally important: Love your neighbor as yourself.
#2—God sent Jesus to save the world because He loves us. For God loved the world so much that He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.
#3—God wants me to trust Him and have faith in Him to always be with me, no matter what. God’s Spirit will help and guide me as a part of God’s family. The Lord is my shepherd, I have all that I need. He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams. He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for You are close beside me. Your rod and Your staff protect and comfort me. You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies. You honor me by anointing my head with oil. My cup overflows with blessings. Surely Your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the Lord forever.
