Mission Activities

Abundant Grace - now open - Donations Needed
Interfaith Hospitality Network: Four to 5 times a year, St. Stephen’s hosts 3 homeless families in our church for a week, giving them safety, security, food and love.

Project Share:On the fifth Friday of each month (four times per Project Shareyear), St. Stephen’s serves at Project Share—a place for people in needof a meal.  Plan to participate by helping in the kitchen, or by bringing the ingredients for the meal.

Storehouse: The Storehouse is a super-pantry, the largest food pantry in New Mexico, and one of the largest in the US.  St. Stephen’s is the “Ramen Noodles” church for the Storehouse.  Bring your noodles or other food goods to Fellowship Hall on Sundays for weekly distribution to the Storehouse.

Christmas Families: St. Stephen’s supports family’s and children’s needs at Christmas.  Most are low-income families with children in the Albuquerque Public Elementary School system.  Plan to participate by  bringing specific gifts for the children or families, or by delivering the gifts.

Children’s Ministry Project: Compassion International is a Christian child advocacy ministry devoted to releasing children from poverty in Jesus’ name. Their goal is to release children from spiritual, economic, social, and physical poverty and enable them to become responsible, fulfilled Christian adults. We sponsor 2 kids through our Adventure Rock Sunday Worship offering that the kids bring in.

Asbury Pie Café: Each September, St. Stephen’s helps run the Asbury Pie Café at the State Fair.  Proceeds from the Pie Café help the homeless.  Plan to help by making pies at scheduled “pie parties”, baking pies, or helping at the Pie Cafe at the State Fair.

United Blood Services: Four times per year, St. Stephen’s supports Albuquerque blood drives.  Donate blood at the Blood Mobile—in the church parking lot!

Nicaragua — Jalapa United Methodist Project (JUMP): Since 1998, St. Stephen’s has helped youth in Jalapa, Nicaragua learn a marketable skill, while encouraging them to remain in public school.  The youth are taught carpentry and sewing .  In addition, eight family homes, a preschool, and the JUMP school have been constructed.  Bibles, Bible study, and meals are provided for the youth.  Consider being a team member next year in continuing outreach to the Jalapa community.

Youth Mission Trips: St. Stephen’s youth mission trips have included Katrina relief projects; house building in Mexico; maintenance work at Mountainair UMC; and various projects for the local community, such as Project Share and The Storehouse.  Volunteer as an adult supervisor to go on the trips.

Have Tools—Will Travel: A group of St. Stephen’s handy men and women are available to travel throughout New Mexico to offer their services to repair United Methodist churches.
